Live Well

Many readers have asked me about my exercise routine and what I eat on an average day. My diet includes vegetables, grains, nuts, fresh fruits, and seeds. I always try to buy seasonal organic produce. I rarely have any dairy, fish, or chicken and never eat pork or beef.

The pictures below show the old me on the left before I took control of my life and my closet. On the right is a more recent picture after simplifying my wardrobe and my life. I let go of the grief and hurt of my past and started living in the present.

Me at age 53 and age 58.

I drink a lot of filtered water with fresh lemon or lime each day, white tea (no sweeteners), and an occasional glass of wine with dinner.

I go for a brisk three-mile walk in my neighborhood when the weather allows. I move as much as possible during the day. I park far away from the store I am going to for two examples, and I go to the bathroom upstairs instead of the one right outside my office door.

Below is a list of links to the recipes for what I eat almost every day at each meal. These are all posts I have shared with you here on the blog and also on Facebook.

What I eat on most days is shown here on this post.

Breakfast

Lunch and or Dinner

Wow, such an incredible example of taking charge of one's life at any physical age. You really are as old as you feel. I am turning 41 soon and will take this as a great example and use it as motivation to do the same. Just beautiful!!!

Hi Great before and after picture. This year I'm working on my diet and started exercising. As I do this, I would like to inspire a wonderful group that follows me in a Facebook page I have for silver hair ladies. Since you look so awesome, could I share your picture with them? I think it would inspire them too. Thanks and congratulations on your wonderful new version.

Susan, this is such an inspiration! I know I am not alone in thanking you for sharing your journey and successes. I am about to embark on the Eat for Life plan. Your porridge looks awesome! But one question, how do you manage your breakfast when you travel? Thanks.

When we travel we sometimes share a veggie omelet and some fresh fruit.

I just found your blog and am really enjoying it! I just turned 50 this year and am planning on moving to CA and reinventing myself. While I share a lot of your style that you wear now, my weight is my issue. So onward and downward (in weight LOL). Thank you for your inspiration. I hope this doesn't sound unkind but your before picture looks like your mother! You are so glam now and so young looking wow! Thanks for being such an inspiration! Do you have a facebook I can follow?

Susan, I've been making the porridge in the morning and agree that it keeps my energy high for most of the day. I also made the meatless chili, I must say I was surprised with the different textures and taste - loved it! I need to work on the various spices :-) thank you for sharing your recipes.

So inspiring! Just found this blog and it's exactly what I need right now. Love seeing the before and after pics and that you're still looking fabulous 5 years later. I'm 52, fat, frumpy and frustrated. Just started my FINAL diet 2 days ago and while losing 50 lbs will be good for my health, I'm doing it to look better, feel more confident and to dump the frump. I'll be following your blog in anticipation of finally shopping for fun. Thanks!

Kudos to you on your weight loss. I know how difficult it can be to lose weight and keep it off. You are an inspiration to those of us who keep trying.
